Organizations come together to pack pasta for kids in need for the 2007 Corporate Challenge

On June 19th companies met a challenge to bring teams of 10 into Philabundance to compete to pack pasta. All of the bags packed will help to provide meals to local children in need during the summer months when they need it the most. The summer is a critical time for local children who count on school breakfast and lunch programs for food. With the close of the school year in June, thousands of children no longer have the benefit of school meal programs and are at an even greater risk of suffering from hunger and malnutrition. The annual Philabundance Corporate Challenge is designed to increase awareness of the causes and risks of childhood hunger and bring companies together to help eliminate the problem.

Five companies stepped up to the challenge this year. Acme Markets, Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, DLA Piper US, Morgan Lewis & Bockius, and SEI Investments came together to pack food for children in need. While each team was in competition to pack the most lunches, the overall goal was to pack at least 1,000 total. Through their hard work and determination, the participants more than doubled that amount and packed over 2,300 lunches! After the challenge was met, the teams celebrated with a reception featuring delicious food prepared by our own Philabundance Community Kitchen.

Philabundance would like to offer a special thank you to all of the companies that participated in this year’s Corporate Challenge.
