Philabundance celebrated National Volunteer Week with the help from Panera Bread

National Volunteer Week was from April 15th through April 21st
In 1974 President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish National Volunteer Week as an annual celebration of volunteering.

Alexis de Tocqueville famously observed in his 1835 book, Democracy in America, that “Americans make great and real sacrifices to the public welfare…,” today, rings truer than ever. The great American philanthropic spirit is alive and well and without it, many if not most human services and public welfare organizations would flounder or worse fail. Volunteers give over hundreds of thousands of hours of their time to provide vital services to individuals and organizations serving people in need.

Philabundance hosted an appreciation reception for volunteers on April 17, 2007,  to thank them for all their hard work and dedication.
Panera Bread showed their support of National Volunteer Week by making a generous donation to Philabundance at the event. They all gave all the volunteers at the vent a loaf of fresh baled bread.  Panera Bread operates 1027 bakery-cafes in 38 states.

In 2006, more than 9000 volunteers passed through Philabundance’s doors, helping in its mission to stamp out hunger.  Our thanks goes out to all of you!!!
