Philadelphia - The hungry in Philadelphia will get some air support thanks to US Airways' donation of a large sum of money to a local food bank.
US Airways gave Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization and food bank, $100,000, and also sponsored the organization's truck fleet.
"Philabundance cannot carry out its mission without the generous support of individuals and organizations like US Airways," Bill Clark, Philabundance's executive director said, "These monies will go a long way to help provide nutritious meals to the growing number of people seeking hunger relief in the Delaware Valley."
The money donated by US Airways goes to cover the cost of acquiring and distributing food items to more than 600 neighborhood agencies, pantries, shelters and food cupboards that are part of Philabundance's member network.
"We are delighted to be able to provide this kind of sponsorship to Philabundance. We strongly believe in Philabundance's mission to drive hunger from our community and want to support their work," Julie Coleman, US Airways' director of community relations said.
