Be A Philabundance Hunger Phighter For A Day
PHILADELPHIA -- August 20, 2008 -- Philabundance will the award the winner of a silent auction the opportunity to become a Philabundance Hunger Phighter for a day. The highest bidder will experience firsthand the generous and life-changing work of Philabundance through a behind the scenes glimpse into the operations of the region’s largest hunger relief organization.
The “Philabundance Hunger Phighter” The winner will have the opportunity to ride a Philabundance truck on a regular morning route as they make food deliveries to the network of agencies serving people in need. Then, the winner will enjoy a donated catered lunch with the company of Philabundance staff. Finally, the “Philabundnace Hunger Phighter” will tour the Berks and Galloway warehouses.
The Delaware Valley business community is encouraged to participate in the bidding to become a “Philabundance Hunger Phighter” for a day.” Bidding will begin on Monday, August 25 at 9 a.m. at www.philabundance.org with an opening bid of $500. The highest bids will be posted on the website on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. The maximum bid received by Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. will be transferred to the 2008 Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic presented by Katz/Pierz at the Pine Hill Golf Club in Pine Hill, N.J. This will serve as the opening bid at the auction on Sept. 18. The bidder does not have to be present at the auction to win the prize.
Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance, stresses the importance of Philabundance’s work and says, “More middle and working class families, along with retired folks are feeling the pinch and are now struggling to put food on the table, as they face higher food and fuel prices. The next blow to families will come in the winter as their utility bills will begin to increase. They will need our help and that of our generous donors more than ever.”
According to the USDA, food prices rose four percent in 2007 and are expected to increase an additional four percent in 2008. The efforts of the business community in participating in the silent auction and golf tournament will help Philabundance meet the growing demand for food aid and feed the 900,000 low income individuals affected by hunger in the Delaware Valley.
