Comedian Joe Conklin “Voices” Support For Philabundance
PHILADELPHIA -- August 21, 2008 -- Sports commentator Joe Conklin, "the man of a thousand voices," will lend his comedic talents to emcee funraising dinner to benefit Philabundance on Sept. 18, as part of this year's Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic presented by Katz/Pierz.
Joe Conklin, a Philadelphia radio personality who's been doing impressions, characters, voice-overs, and stand-up comedy for more than 20 years, will entertain guests at the third annual Drive Out Hunger Awards Dinner with a 30-minute stand-up routine and emcee the evenings awards ceremony and Silent Auction that will announce who won the chance to be a “Philabundance Hunger Phighter” - employee for the day.
The Silent Auction will also include such sports memorabilia as a Jimmy Rollins signed ball, a Chase Utley signed bat, a Tiger Woods signed 2007 PGA 16x20 photo, a 1980 US hockey team signed 16x20 photo, and a 1933 signed helmet by Brian Westbrook. Other items include a Vail vacation home, Pool table and equipment, a mural in your home by local muralist and several golf packages at various clubs in the region including the Merion Golf Club, the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Forsgate Country Club, and Melrose Country Club.
The Delaware Valley sports and business community is encouraged to participate in advance of the Awards Dinner and Silent Auction on Sept. 18, by bidding to become a “Philabundance Hunger Phighter” for a day.” Bidding will begin on Monday, August 25 at 9 a.m. at philabundance.org with an opening bid of $500. The highest bids will be posted on the website on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. The maximum bid received by Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. will be transferred to the 2008 Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic. This will serve as the opening bid at the silent auction. The bidder does not have to be present at the auction to win the prize.
The third annual Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic and Fundraising Dinner, at the Pine Hill Golf Club in Pine Hill, N.J., is organized to support and highlight the area and nation’s hunger crisis. The efforts of Katz/Pierz and this year’s sponsors will help Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, meet the growing demand for food aid and feed the 900,000 low income individuals affected by hunger in the Delaware Valley.
This year’s Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic on Thursday, Sept. 18 will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with cocktails at 5:30 and the Awards Dinner and Silent Auction at 6 p.m. emceed by Joe Conklin. Tickets for the dinner are $100 each and can be purchased online at driveouthunger.org.
