Fresh For All Opens In Willingboro Serving More People Than Any Other Site
FRESH FOR ALL opens its third New Jersey
July 21, 2008 -- PHILADELPHIA,-- FRESH FOR ALL, a program that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables directly to people in areas with limited access to these essential foods opened its fifth location in Willingboro, New Jersey last week to record crowds.
On July 16th Philabundance brought FRESH FOR ALL to Willingboro, NJ with the largest launch to-date, serving 230 households. The new Willingboro site served more households than any of the other locations, which have been operational for months. The newest location is at the Grand Marketplace on 4340, Route 130 North in Willingboro every Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m..
FRESH FOR ALL launched in Woodlyn, Pa in December of 2007. The program gives five pounds of food for every person in the household very week. The Fresh For All program is distributing approximately 18,000 pounds each week to 1100 households comprised of 2800 individuals. FRESH FOR ALL has distributed more than 340,000 pounds of food so far, of which the majority is produce. Approximately 186,000 of those pounds were distributed in New Jersey.
“The need in the Delaware Valley continues to grow and the cost of food, especially produce is rising, which means fruits and vegetables are becoming luxury goods and are completely out of reach for many people,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director, Philabundance. “Philabundance has always emphasized healthy food choices and FRESH FOR ALL helps put theses essential foods into the diets of people who need it most.”
More people are struggling in the current unsteady economy with rising fuel and food costs. According to the USDA food prices rose four percent in 2007, and are expected to increase an additional four percent in 2008. Philabundance estimates that there are approximately 900,000 people in the Delaware Valley that need help with food. Through its network of close to 600 agencies, food is distributed to approximately 65,000 people every week..
Anyone in need of help can participate in this program. All that is required is to register and provide basic household information. FRESH FOR ALL is not connected with any government agency, so signing up will not affect any other benefits individuals are receiving. Philabundance asks that anyone interested bring their own boxes or bags to distributions.
Philabundance is actively seeking volunteers to help FRESH FOR ALL succeed. Though times vary by location, each distribution requires 2 hours and 10-15 volunteers. FRESH FOR ALL currently is currently seeking volunteers for all sites, especially in Willingboro, Salem and Camden, where bi-lingual Spanish speaking volunteers are needed.
