International Percussion Sensation STOMP Helps Stomp Out Hunger
Cast members with the award-winning, smash hit STOMP, joined local volunteers at Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, in an effort to help ‘Stomp Out Hunger’ by sorting and packing food items for holiday distribution to local organizations serving people in need.
As a special treat, the cast used their rhythm and percussion talents to ‘Play the Warehouse’ in a choreographed routine with drumsticks. The performers ‘played’ an assortment of objects on hand, such as cans of food, shelves, boxes, trash cans, buckets, ladders, forklifts, and just about any other warehouse item that was in sight. STOMP is an explosive, sophisticated, unique production whose eight member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments to perform – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, hubcaps, and Zippo lighters.
In an effort to ‘Stomp Out Hunger,’ STOMP will also assist Philabundance by making a charitable donation through ticket proceeds from performances at Philadelphia’s Merriam Theater, Dec. 26 to Jan. 2, 2008.
